Preseason Friendly In England Delayed Because Of BEES

So, that’s a swarm of bees that took up residence at the grounds of a professional football club. Yup. That’s a thing that happened.

Oldham Athletic—they play in League One, England's third division—hosted a preseason friendly on Saturday against second division side Blackburn Rovers. Kickoff was delayed, however, when the grounds crew discovered a hive of bees that claimed dominion over a goalpost;. (Content warning: link contains bee puns. Lots of them.)

A local beekeeper was called in to relocate the swarm before the match could kickoff.

Eventually the hive was moved…

… and the teams got down to business. Blackburn went on to win the game 2-0. The results of preseason friendlies aren't typically that important. I think it's safe to say that no one will remember the scoreline from this one.

Incidentally, if you live in Greater Manchester and you've got a bee problem, John Ogden is apparently the guy to call.
