Mike Flanigin has been performing in Austin for two decades, making close friends and frequent collaborators of some of the region’s rising stars and most renowned musicians. On his forthcoming The Drifter, executive produced by Kat Edmonson and featuring Billy Gibbons, years of hard work and good friendships have culminated in a 10-song LP, set for release next month. While collaborators on the album range from Alejandro Escovedo to Jimmie Vaughan, Flanigin says that he had Gary Clark Jr. in mind when he wrote the “Stop the World.”
“There’s no hiding on a song like that,” says Flanigin. “You believe every word he sings, and every note he plays. I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing it.”
