Nearly 36 years ago, Pink Floyd broke new ground with their sprawling, seminal concept album The Wall, exploring themes of abandonment and personal isolation and setting the bar for rock operas. Now, Roger Waters is tackling the universal themes of love, life and loss in the spectacular new trailer for his upcoming concert film, The Wall.

The film chronicles Waters’ experience throughout the worldwide tour, which ran from 2010 to 2013 and is largely considered one of the most ambitious and successful productions of all time. A press release reads: Roger Waters The Wall is a film that unfolds on many levels: an immersive concert experience of the seminal 1979 Pink Floyd album, a road movie of Waters’ reckoning with the death of his father in Italy in 1944, and a stirring film that highlights the human cost of armed conflict.”

From a technical standpoint, the show is breathtaking. Fireworks explode hundreds of feet above the stage as Waters is cast against a myriad of surreal visuals, many expressing his own anti-war stance. The power of The Wall lies in its universality, and as fans watch the performance in awe and sway in time with the music, it’s easy to see the album’s timelessness. The trailer climaxes as Waters pounds his fist against the wall, shattering it across the length of the stage and standing with his back to the audience, arms outstretched in victory.

Roger Waters The Wall hits select theaters on Sept. 29, along with The Simple Facts, “an exclusive in-conversation with Roger Waters and Nick Mason.” Tickets are available now.
