Pinball is bigger than it’s been in decades. The collector market has thrived over the last few years, and with it the competitive scene has grown rapidly year after year. Tournaments are popping up everywhere, but the biggest pinball tournament in the world remains Pinburgh, which happens every year in Pittsburgh, PA. Sponsored by the Professional and Amateur Pinball Association (PAPA), and held at the ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival, Pinburgh hosted 700 players this past weekend as they played from a selection of almost 300 pinball machines. With a total prize pool of $100,000, players could make a lot of money doing something they love.
Pinburgh is held at the annual ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival, which also features a large freeplay area for those who want to play pinball but don’t want to enter the tournament. As part of our ongoingeffort to document the current pinball scene, we asked photographer and writer Brian Taylor to take photos of the machines at ReplayFX. This is the first in a series of galleries of his photography.—Garrett Martin
