Futurebirds have returned. The Athens, Ga. band is embarking on a tour in support of their new album, Hotel Parties, which boasts a fuller, more produced sound than their Russian folklore-named 2013 album Baba Yaga.

“It’s less washy and ethereal than Baba Yaga, a little more to the point, both sonically and lyrically,” said Futurebirds’ Carter King. “We stripped away a lot of the instrumental excesses and reverb that we have tended to rely on in the past.”

This album has its fair share of both up-tempo and down-tempo songs. One of the more upbeat tracks, “Deadbeat Hits,” is a parody of sorts of the challenges they’ve faced.

“It’s a little bit of satire about the desire to record a smash hit, get treated like gods, and start acting like assholes,” said King. Following that are two slow songs, the latter being “Hard As You Like,” which closes out Hotel Parties. The stark differences between the tempos on this album give it an interesting dynamic as you listen in full.

The album was mixed by Brian Paulson, who has also worked with Uncle Tupelo and Wilco.

The album is set for release on Sept. 25 via Easy Sound Recordings and is available for pre-order now. Stream Hotel Parties in its entirety above.
