When a small human is growing inside your body, your senses can go temporarily out of whack. Things start to smell different and taste different. Once-appealing foods can seem revolting, while once-revolting combinations suddenly hit the spot. Not every pregnant woman gets cravings for strange foods, but many do—thus the old cliché about ice cream and pickles.
You won’t see ice cream and pickles on Eating for Two: The Pregnancy Cravings Cookbook, a site put together by Juarez Rodrigues and Vicky Jacob-Ebbinghaus. Not only do they take food cravings shared by pregnant women and prepare and photograph them—they also sample and rate the recipes. Given some of the recipes (“Burnt Matches” and “Medley of Soaps”), the gesture is either brave or crazy. “All the recipes we feature are real, genuine cravings eaten by a real, genuine pregnant person,” Rodrigues and Jacob-Ebbinghaus say on the site. Here are some of the creations they share, along with their tasting notes. You can follow the recipes to make them at home, if you are so inclined. But I’m gonna guess you’d rather stick with just looking and reading.
