Artist, Writer and Wes Anderson’s Girlfriend Juman Malouf Releases Her Debut Novel

Books News Wes Anderson

The whimsical worlds of Wes Anderson films always reminded me of a dreamy, slightly creepy children’s story. This could possibly be in part due to the set and wardrobe. Artist and writer Juman Malouf served as the set and costume designer for The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom, and now she is releasing her debut novel The Trilogy of Two.

Malouf is Anderson’s girlfriend of 18 years and is of Lebanese descent; she has collaborated and inspired Anderson’s work greatly.

The Trilogy of Two was written and illustrated by Malouf and follows orphaned identical twins Charlotte and Sonja. In the book, the girls work in a traveling circus playing beautiful music. Something strange happens, though, when the twins get lost in their playing. Audience members fly through the sky, rain clouds appear and other mystical occurrences haunt the circus tents. The twins grapple with controlling their new magical powers and set out to discover who they are and why they were gifted this way.

The Trilogy of Two comes out Nov. 10, but in the meantime watch the trailer for the chronicles below.
