JT Nero (JT and the Clouds) and Allison Russell (Po’ Girl) make up Chicago’s Americana gospel dream team Birds of Chicago, and they are releasing their latest single, “Real Midnight.”
“Well…we are often the absolute worst to the ones we love the most,” said vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Allison Russell. “That’s just a hard fact. This song began as an attempt to snap ourselves out of that loop, and it ended up being sort of a thesis statement for the whole album.”
“Real Midnight” is the title track off of the duo’s upcoming sophomore album, out February 19.
“It’s probably the most personal thing I’ve ever written,” added songwriter/vocalist/guitarist JT Nero of the song. “And that can be a little rough, but it’s good medicine. We sing it because we need to. Unless you’re some a sociopath, it feels better to love and to be loving. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth the fight.”
