If we didn’t think this world was electronic enough, the New York Public Library has released its online digitized collection consisting of over 600,000 images that are available for download in high resolution without restriction. That means, for free!
Remember the long afternoon days doing research that required us to go into the actual library? Kids writing research papers nowadays have it made. With everything a click away, you can search the thousands of images that are now in public domain, or have fallen out of copyright, by genre, color, century or collection. Find everything from sheet music and hand written letters and maps and prints to photographs, manuscripts and all kinds of illustrations. New material will be added daily to this new living database.
The library is encouraging people to use these images creatively. How do you plan on using them? We got sucked in immediately and spent hours looking through these amazing images trying to come up with a only a few of our favorites. Warning, this is a gold mine. Yep, while we’re not saying ditch the library for good, you can definitely wave your afternoon good-bye right from your computer.
