Hop Along in Ohio

Hop Along drummer Mark Quinlan said that his band would never stop playing gigs like their stop in Columbus, Ohio—the last stop of their tour. A railroad bar that ends in a stage backed against a storefront window, Double Happiness was packed with fans stacked from front to rear for the sold-out show. Hop Along remains a band that can electrify intimate venues and echoing hangars (the group plays NYC’s Terminal 5 with Doctor Dog this month) with their cathartic anthems. Their 2015 album “Painted Shut” offers a journey of emo-laced pop buoyed by lead singer Frances Quinlan’s sweet-and-sandpaper voice; the effort landed on countless end-of-the-year best-of lists (Paste’s included). Photographer Sean Edgar was there to capture the mayhem and melodies.
