As you might have heard, the “Fifth Beatle,” legendary producer George Martin, passed away last night at the age of 90. He was vital in creating the Beatles’ paradigm-shifting sound, and his contributions to popular music are impossible to overstate.
Paul McCartney, in a heartfelt statement published on his website, called Martin a “second father” and “a truly great man who left an indelible mark on my soul and the history of British music.”
Countless other musicians used Twitter to express their sorrow at Martin’s passing. You can scroll through their reactions above, including the likes of Elton John, Mark Ronson and more. From Rostam Batmanglij: “George Martin is why I make music.”
