Streaming Wars: Amazon Prime Steals a Big Show From Netflix

TV News Amazon Prime

The streaming wars are a vicious form of digital combat, and Amazon Prime has struck a big blow by securing the rights to Dr. Who. The BBC sci-fi show (Peter Capaldi is the current incarnation of the doctor) left Netflix on Feb. 1, and despite the belief in some corners that it would return, the program will head to Amazon Prime instead. Beginning on March 27, the first eight seasons of the newer version of Dr. Who, which began airing in 2005, will be available to stream on Prime. The ninth season will arrive in the fall. Unfortunately for old school fans, the classic pre-2005 Dr. Who episodes are not included in the deal, and continue to be—in streaming terms—homeless.
