Games? Yeah, I’ve played a few. But never before have I played a game by licking an ice cube. I did at this year’s Game Developers Conference, held at San Francisco’s Moscone Conference Center. Since 1988, industry folks have convened to show-off their latest wares, trade secrets, make deals, and eat burritos. The show has grown from a single living room filled with two-dozen or so developers to a massive week-long event spanning numerous exhibit halls and nearby hotel suites, with an estimated 27,000 creators and journalists joining together to learn, teach, and play. One person could never see everything shown. These are the games I put my hands on, my face into, and my tongue around.
