Disney continues with its live-action reimagining of the classics. Films like Maleficent (2014) and Cinderella (2015) have focused on fairy tales, princesses and magical worlds. But The Jungle Book delves into the animal kingdom. Jon Favreau directs, bringing his various talents from a diverse directing filmography—his action skills from Iron Man and his emotional IQ from Elf.
The original cartoon film is a beloved treasure, known for its charming characters and catchy songs. Wolfgang Reitherman directed it with the same humorous, heartfelt touch he brought to The Sword in the Stone, Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats and Robin Hood. It will be interesting to see how the two films match up against each other in tone and character. The live-action Cinderella was basically the same as the animated film, but without music, while Maleficent told a different side of the story. There’s so much affection for the characters in The Jungle Book, they inevitably have a strong fan base on Etsy. Here are ways to commemorate the film, old and new.
