The creative team behind AMC’s Preacher are saddling up with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke for another intensely dark comic book adaptation, according to Deadline.

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Neal Moritz are developing the project for Cinemax, based on Garth Ennis’ The Boys. Kripke will serve as writer, in addition to his development duties. Rogen and Goldberg are slated to direct, while Moritz’s Original Films and Sony TV are providing studio backing. Ennis will serve as a co-executive producer.

The graphic novel centers on a time where, as a result of their celebrity status, superheroes have become corrupt and often engage in dangerous behavior that compromises the safety of the world. A select team of CIA agents, known only as The Boys, are tasked with keeping watch on the proliferation of superheroes and when it becomes necessary, take them out.

Sharing a creative team and author aren’t the only things that Preacher and The Boys have in common. Both had previously been sitting in development, The Boys for the past eight years, with potential adaptations for Columbia Pictures and Paramount that never got off the ground.
