More than three years have passed since Gears of War: Judgment’s release; today, we learned that the next installment in the stellar third-person shooter series, Gears of War 4, will be released on Oct. 11.
The newest story in the saga will focus on JD Fenix, the son of original protagonist Marcus Fenix, and will take place 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. The Locusts may be gone, but humanity’s existence remains threatened—no more fossil fuels, a proliferation of walled-off cities, that sort of post-apocalyptic stuff.
If you don’t want to wait until October to play the game, you can sign up for the multiplayer beta, which opens on April 18 to anyone who’s played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10, then expands on April 25 to all Xbox Live Gold members.
