The 2016 Laureus World Sports Awards were held in Berlin on Monday. Essentially the Oscars for sports, the ceremony honored athletes, coaches, and other luminaries from the sports world. Tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams took home the Sportsman and Sportswoman Of The Year awards, respectively, while the New Zealand National Rugby Team won the award for Team Of The Year and golfer Jordan Spieth won the Breakthrough Of The Year award, presumably as a consolation prize for his collapse at the 2016 Masters Tournament.
It was a lovely evening for all involved. One… awkward moment notwithstanding.
Bill Murray was the celebrity host. At one point during the ceremony he picked out German national team head coach Jogi Löw, who seemed caught somewhat offguard by the sudden attention.
And then, rather inexplicably, Bill Murray started serenading Löw with the theme song from “Yogi The Bear.”
It was, uh. Yeah.
Löw then got up onstage to present an award and everyone moved on from the episode.
