Back in November, we brought you the release of Jon Lindsay’s “Lifer,” the second single from his upcoming album Cities & Schools. (The first single, “All Them Houses,” can be heard here.) Today, we’re pleased to bring you the third single, “When They Broke the World,” which you can play above.
As usual, Jon Lindsay brings his impressive talent for melody and lyrics in his latest single, which only heightens anticipation for Cities & Schools, out June 10 on File 13 Records. From the very first verse, Lindsay’s trademark, almost paradoxical combination of energy and melancholy is present:
I watch her wait, as the earth is winding down
for a break in this underwhelming town
and it’s too late, she’s aware and so am I
that our fate is to watch this long goodbye
Throughout the song, there is a theme that I believe will emerge in much art created by this generation and the next—the idea that the world as our parents knew it has been damaged in some critical way, and that the planet we’re inheriting holds less promise than it did for them.
We’re also pleased to premiere the album trailer for Cities & Schools, which you can check out in the player below.
