will no longer play James Bond in any future films despite a £68 million offer to play Bond in two more films. According to sources of The Daily Mail, he has told studio bosses that he is “done” with the role.
This news comes almost a year after Spectre, the most recent film of the James Bond franchise, was released. Though the film was a box-office hit, Craig expressed frustration at the idea of playing a spy again. When asked by UK’s Time Out if he’d do another movie, he replied, “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists.”
In addition to Spectre, Craig has also played Bond in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, raising more than £2 billion in box office revenues for MGM studio and being paid £38 million for the four films.
However, according to an LA film source in the Daily Mail piece, “Daniel is done — pure and simple — he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted.”
There is still speculation over who will replace Craig, but rumored candidates are Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner, Idris Elba and Tom Hardy. Many betting offices have predicted Hiddleston to be the most likely replacement, and some have even stopped taking bets on him. There are also rumors of Hiddleston meeting with Bond director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli earlier this week.
