Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have announced their latest album and shared a new single with NPR.
The record is called American Band and is out on ATO Records Sept. 30. It was recorded with the band’s current lineup of Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley, bassist Mike Patton, multi-instrumentalist Jay Gonzalez and drummer Brad Morgan.
“Surrender Under Protest” is the Cooley-penned and -sung first single from the record. Listen to the incendiary tune below.
According to a release, the new album is directly inspired by the tumultuous social climate of 2016 so far. “Fueled by a just spirit of moral indignation and righteous rage, American Band is protest music fit for the stadiums, designed to raise issues and ire as the nation careens towards its most momentous election in a generation,” describes the release.
