Rob Thomas—you know, the “Give me your heart, make it real, or else forget about it” guy—is coming in hologram form for fans who purchase the VIP package on his latest tour.
Made with the help of social augmented reality company VNTANA, the “hologram karaoke fan experience” first lets fans select one of three songs by Thomas. A hologram of the fan then appears on stage next to the Thomas hologram, and they perform the chosen song together as a duet.
A press release stated how fan engagement is essential in music culture, but “accessibility to artists has recently raised concerns and challenged artists to come up with new ways to engage with fans.” This comes in the wake of former Voice singer Christina Grimmie being shot and killed by a man at her concert in Florida.
The Matchbox Twenty singer will be touring North America this summer with the Counting Crows. Find Thomas’ tour dates here.
