The inspiration for Ages and Ages’ latest album comes from a trip to Central America where two of the band members saw how nature was reclaiming the indigenous ruins. Something to Ruin, out Aug. 19, is the buoyant Portland band’s third album, and it explores the consequences of our superficial and commercial actions and what comes next.

The opposite of what’s happening to those ruins is occurring in the band’s hometown and other cities across the U.S. Now, the skyline is dominated by manmade structures and land is disappearing. To mimic this contrast, the band incorporated more synthetic sounds rather than its typical organic style, resulting in their experimentation with electronic grooves.

The band premiered their first track from the new album today on NPR. “They Want More” is spirited song with the band’s signature harmonies that reflects the message of the upcoming LP.

Ages and Ages  also announced a round of tour dates in support of Something to Ruin.
