Manhattan’s Getting a Golden Girls Restaurant

Travel News Restaurant

Today our culinary eateries have expanded from just drool-inducing dishes to incorporating
some form of entertainment. There are restaurants with “jousting” shows, naked-optional restaurants and now there is a Golden Girls-themed café coming to north Manhattan.

A close friend of the late actress Rue McClanahan, the fiery widow Blanche Devereaux on the TV Land series, plans to open the Rue La Rue Café on 4396 Broadway at the Sofie Storage Building around early September.

The café is opening in honor of late Rue McClanahan. “She was my best friend,” said Michael LaRue, the owner, during a Community Board 12 licensing committee meeting for its wine license.

LaRue will decorate the café with memorabilia from McClanahan’s estate while the menu will consist of soups, wraps, desserts, baked treats, wine and cheesecake. The café’s operating hours will be Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition to the café, LaRue plans on bringing McClanahan’s piano to the café for live music and will create an outdoor component in the next year.

With all of the excitement, don’t forget who you brought to the café and thank them for being a friend.
