Today, we get an extended first look at OWN’s original series, Queen Sugar, based on Natalie Biszele’s novel of the same name.
Produced by Oprah Winfrey and helmed by Selma director Ava DuVernay, the drama series follows three estranged siblings who reunite in Louisiana to run a sugarcane farm after the death of the family patriarch. Nova (Rutina Wesley) investigates touchy subjects in journalism, Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) manages her husband, a professional basketball star, and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) tries to reconnect with his son after serving time in prison.
Queen Sugar’s premiere will span two nights, Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Wednesday Sept. 7, at 10 p.m. EST/PST on OWN. The show will air regularly at the same time on Wednesdays for its remaining eleven episodes.
