This is a good week for Star Trek fans. In addition to Star Trek Beyond being released on Friday, Paramount Pictures announced a fourth Kelvin-timeline Star Trek film today. The forthcoming film will focus on Captin Kirk’s relationship with his father, whom Paramount describes as “A man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born.”
The main Star Trek cast will return, including Chris Pine as Captain Kirk. Chris Hemsworth, who appeared as George Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek, will reprise his role. Paramount has not commented on who will succeed Anton Yelchin in the role of Pavel Chekov.
and Lindsey Weber will produce the movie through Bad Robot Productions. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the script, while David Ellison and Dana Goldberg from Skydance will serve as executive producers. While Star Trek Beyond was directed by Justin Lin, the director for the fourth Star Trek film has not yet been announced.
Hemsworth is currently starring in Ghostbusters, and filming Thor: Ragnarok and the first Avengers: Infinity War film.
