The Canadian electro-ravers Crystal Castles recently shared their eerie new single “Char” off of their forthcoming album, Amnesty (I). “Char” is the second new song by the band this month, following the release of “Concrete” early last week.

Both songs, along with “Femen” first released in June, will all be included on Amnesty (I), scheduled for release on Aug. 19 via Fiction. The album will be the duo’s first full-length since 2012’s (III), as well as the first full release featuring their new vocalist, Edith Frances. The band will tour in support of the new album this fall with Frances.

Original vocalist Alice Glass left the band in 2014, claiming she was “desperate” and “frustrated” with her career with her then-bandmate Ethan Kath. Kath has stated that Glass did not contribute to much of the duo’s songwriting or production, which Glass has denied.

Even with a new vocalist, “Char” is as unnerving and ghostly as the band’s prior discography. While not nearly as aggressive or brash as the band’s work with Glass, Frances adapts Crystal Castles into a new phase for the group that is still equally incendiary as the band’s back catalog.
