Red Hot Chili Peppers Mistaken For Metallica, Made to Sign Autographs Anyway

Music News Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have had a busy year, releasing a new album last month after a five-year absence and starring in what is arguably the funniest episode of Carpool Karaoke so far.

Regardless of their activity in the press though, the Peppers are fairly famous and recognizable dudes at this point in their more than 30 years together. Customs officials at an airport in Belarus were so confident in correctly identifying the band that they pulled them into an office for autographs.

However, when the band saw the requested photos for signing, they were a bit confused. It turns out they were staring at images of five completely different people: Metallica.

This story stems from an Instagram post from Flea. The photo shows the totally not-Robert Trujillo Chili Pepper dutifully signing images of the legendary metal band with a description of the incident.

“We tried to explain to them that we weren’t Metallica but they insisted that we sign anyway. They had the power,” wrote Flea.

Watch video of the bassist playing his favorite Metallica song with the correct band at a 2008 show in both groups’ hometown of Los Angeles. The question remains, though: do the customs officials think Red Hot Chili Peppers make Metallica’s music, or is it the other way around?
