Melania Trump gave a speech at the Republican National Convention last night, and kind of plagiarized Michelle Obama’s 2008 DNC speech just a little bit. I mean, there’s no question, here: it’s some straight-up plagiarism. Which is a little inexplicable—these things are usually very carefully stage managed, and you’d think something like this wouldn’t be able to slip through and onto the stage.

Of course, here we are, the morning after, and instead of focusing on the head-exploding anger of Rudy Giuliani’s speech, or the warmongering, “Hillary belong sin jail” bellicosity of retired General Michael T. Flynn, we’re now all talking about a fairly trivial sidebar. It’d be one thing if Trump himself commits plagiarism at the RNC; it’s weird and funny and unthinkable that his wife’s speechwriters would be so blatant about it, but it doesn’t necessarily say much about the person who will actually be on the ballot. The rage and hatred found in almost every other speech last night does, and now we’re barely even talking about it. So yeah, the distraction was a success, I guess? (And Trump’s campaign manager, Paul Manafort, deflected about how you’d expect: blaming Hillary Clinton for this even being an issue, and telling CNN that it’s “an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, she seeks out to demean her and take her down.”)

Anyway: Trump’s plagiarism hit the big time on Twitter, where everybody with an account was apparently contractually obligated to participate in the #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes hashtag. It’s still going strong right now. Here’s a small selection of some of the best of these tweets, and if you want to see more funny tweets about the first night of the RNC, go here.
