Trevor Sensor has a voice that creeps into you. It’s not pretty, per se. Not in the traditional sense, at least. But it is weirdly addictive, perhaps because it is something that you don’t hear everyday.

The Illinois singer-songwriter has a folk sensibility and a punk affectation in his first EP, Texas Girls and Jesus Christ. Sensor will show off more of his ragtag style in his sophomore effort, Starved Nights of Saturday Stars, out Aug. 5.

The 22-year-old released the lead single off his forthcoming EP, “When Tammy Spoke to Martha,” on Monday. The track has that old-school vibe, like something you’d hear on your hip grandma’s gramophone. His gravelly, crackling tone is accompanied by frisky plucking and lilting piano. Sensor is aware of his delinquency, like getting in trouble in the bars, but he’s still just your average Joe lookin’ for that little bit of happiness.
