Acer Just Announced the Thinnest Laptop Ever Made

Tech News laptops

Thanks to Apple, modern devices are often not judged by how powerful or fast they are, but instead how thin they are. Acer is now getting into the ring with its new laptop, the Swift 7.

Announced today at IFA, the consumer electronics show in Berlin, Acer showed off the Swift 7, the thinnest laptop ever made at just 9.98mm or 0.39 inches. That’s thinner than both the relaunched MacBook from last year and the HP Spectre 13, two products that took that previously held that title.

While Apple’s MacBook made some eyebrow-raising compromises with its ultrathin computer, the Swift 7 doesn’t miss anything you’d expect in a 2016 Ultrabook. It’s got a a 13.3-inch HD display, two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and even claims up to 9 hours of battery life.

The Windows 10 laptop also has one of the widest touchpads we’ve seen, which has been included across the board on Acer’s new lineup of laptops. Speaking of which, alongside this new thin laptop, Acer announced another thin laptop: the Spin 7.

The Spin 7 is only a millimeter thicker than the Swift 7, but uses that thickness to pack in a Core i7 processor, touchscreen capabilities, and a 360 degree hinge. Both laptops, however, feature a beautiful unibody design made purely of aluminum that is stunning to look at. The weight of the Swift 7 is even more stunning, coming in just a bit heavier than the MacBook at 2.48 pounds.

Both laptops go on sale in China this September with European and American release dates in the following month. The Swift 7 will retail for $999 and the Spin 7 for $1,199.
