Following a week of anticipation and teasers like yesterday’s, American Football have announced their new album, American Football (LP2), their first release since 1999. Out Oct. 21, the album is available for pre-order from Polyvinyl Records here. Pitchfork first reported the news.

Undoubtedly reminiscent of their first album yet noticeably fresh, the first single “I’ve Been So Lost For So Long” is everything you’d expect it to be and more. Shimmering, reverb-soaked guitar lines, pining vocal harmonies and polyrhythmic drumming all come together to make this a very strong return for the Illinois indie band. “I don’t want American Football to become this popular monster. But I also don’t want to fade away or something, either,” said singer Mike Kinsella. “I want to maintain this comfort we finally have with this band now. We’re just enjoying it.”

Listen to “I’ve Been So Lost For So Long” below—beneath that, find the American Football (LP2) tracklist and a short list of the band’s record release shows.
