Hugh Grant probably has a love-hate relationship with Four Weddings and a Funeral. On the one hand, it propelled him to stardom. On the other, it kept him stuck for years playing the same incongruous character: the suitor with the “Who, me?” personality but the “I use ‘summer’ as a verb” looks. With a few notable exceptions, his departures from that formula have been less commercially successful. Fortunately, Grant—who is famously derisive of the film industry—doesn’t seem to mind. He stars opposite Meryl Streep in the comic biopic Florence Foster Jenkins, in theaters August 12.
