With the Fall Equinox hitting this week, it’s safe to say that festival season in all of its sweaty, boozy, sun-burnt glory is hitting its encore. The Coachellas, Lollapaloozas and Burning Mans have left their foot prints and vendor trash under the summer sun, leaving latter September and October to usher in the afterparty. Oldchella ...er Desert Trip will punctuate the season with a damn ridiculous schedule including The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young and The Who, but this weekend’s KAABOO Del Mar in San Diego may take the accolades for the chillest comedown fest.
Describing itself as a “mix-perience” that blends comedy, comedy music and food, the underlying benefit of the 3-day event may be its reprieve from the porta-potty graveyard of mud and tripping millennials, festooned with a decently eclectic lineup. Flushing toilets aside, a schedule crossing veteran chill auteurs like Jimmy Buffett, Hall & Oates and Jack Johnson alongside moderate proto-hipster fare including Rooney, Atlas Genius and Grouplove may be the only festival 30-somethings with kids and moderate bedtimes can tolerate without hourly B vitamin injections.
Concert photography queen Amy Harris was there to capture the weekend, the first day mixing Americana sweethearts Shovel & Rope, Motown disciples St. Paul & The Broken Bones, a laptop-bound Snoop Dogg and more.
