Corinne Bailey Rae made us wait six years for her latest, shimmering LP, The Heart Speaks in Whispers, (though we got an amazing EP in between), so what was an extra hour and a half last Thursday for her sterling performance at New York City’s Webster Hall? After wrestling with speakers, the British R&B singer-songwriter powered past midnight without the aid of in-ear monitors, letting her air-born vocals and intoxicating melodies flow from nigh to morning. Chicago’s Janelle Kroll opened the show, previewing tracks from her dance-flavored EP Outsider, set to release September 30th. Paste’s DeShaun Craddock was there to photograph the show.
