Pokémon Sun and Moon Trailer Shows Mysterious New Ultra Beasts, Pokémon Snap Successor

It seems like everyday we get more news of what to expect from the forthcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, but today’s trailer is a veritable buffet of new information.

Firstly, we get a look at some new Pokémon, including Null, who’s described as a “Synthetic Pokémon” built to have the strengths of various Pokémon, and Jangmo-o, a cute, little dragon type who probably evolves into a not-cute, big dragon type. We also get to see the Alola form of one of the original 151 Pokémon, Raticate, who gets darker fur and big puffy cheeks.

The trailer also revealed that the dual titles aren’t just a continuation of the series’ naming trend, they’ll actually matter in-game. According to a press release, this means that Sun will be based off the time your DS is set to, and Moon will be set twelve hours after that time. Events and wild Pokémon within the game will be different based on what version of the game you have and what time it is in-game when you encounter them.

Also debuted were the mysterious new Pokémon, Ultra Beasts, who are said to be a danger to humans and Pokémon alike. The one shown in the trailer is only referred to as UB-01, the designation given to it by the Aether Foundation, a research organization in Alola also revealed in the trailer, that looks to provide shelter and care for all Pokémon.

None of that matters though, because in this trailer Nintendo has stealthily announced the successor to the most underrated Pokémon game ever made, Pokémon Snap. Sun and Moon gives players the Poké Finder, a camera to be used in certain areas to take pictures of wild Pokémon. Like in Pokémon Snap, you’ll choose photos to submit that are then evaluated for their quality. The better pictures you take, the more abilities for the Poké Finder you’ll unlock.
