Halloween is rapidly approaching, and if you’re like me, that means you’re rapidly preparing to spend an evening dressed as an oversized pink bunny, following your kids around the neighborhood while dragging a cooler with “emergency supplies.” You’re going to need some holiday-appropriate beer for that cooler. So we found a bunch of beers brewed with Halloween in mind. Because if you’re walking to all your neighbors’ houses while wearing a pink bunny suit, you’re going to need some really strong pumpkin ales.

New Holland Ichabod Pumpkin Ale
Brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg and real pumpkin, Ichabod is a truly, unabashedly pumpkin ale.

The Lost Abby Witch's Wit
You can still find this late summer seasonal on the shelves, and while the style might be a bit off (it's a light, 4.8% wheat beer), the label is spot on for the season--it doesn't get much darker than a witch burning at the stake.

Looking for something that's more on the nose from Lost Abbey? How about My Black Parade, a bourbon barrel aged strong ale brewed with cinnamon, chilies and vanilla.

Wicked Weed Dark Arts Espresso
A tequila barrel-aged imperial stout with Brett, Wicked Weed is releasing this beast this weekend.

AleSmith Evil Dead Red Ale
The fall seasonal pours blood red and has an ABV of 6.66%. Too spooky? Try bringing a few of AleSmith's year-round Horny Devil Belgians to the Halloween party and see if you get any bites.

Ballast Point Dead Ringer
San Diego's Ballast Point puts out this traditional Marzen every fall. Somehow, the skeleton on the label manages to be both scary, and festive, which pretty much sums up Halloween for me.

Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher
You've got all kinds of Halloween archetypes on this label—the badass monster hunter, the silly monster, the blood sucking lawyer…and it's an imperial stout with an 11% ABV to boot.

New Belgium Pumpkick
Even if you don't like pumpkin beers, you have to like the label. Also, I gotta say, the addition of cranberry juice helps take the edge off the pumpkin flavor.

Catawba White Zombie
Catawba follows the Belgian tradition for witbier with their White Zombie, adding coriander and orange peel to this light, frothy wheat beer. It's 5.1% ABV, and should be on your list of beers for long sessions of trick or treating.

Ninkasi Dawn of the Red
Ninkasi walks a tight rope with this IPA, balancing the caramel backbone of the "Red" with the bright hop assertiveness of El Dorado and Moasic hops. It's a year-round brew, but they're running a Dawn of the Red Instagram contest where you can share your Halloween costume and win a custom Ninkasi fire pit.
