Cirque du Soleil Is Building a Theme Park in Mexico

Anyone who’s seen Cirque du Soleil once realizes two things: That was awesome and how can I do that? Those who don’t want to move to Montreal and live with guys named “Guy” and practice trapeze for 14 hours per day can soon experience the CDS life in 2018, when Cirque du Soleil’s theme park opens at Vidanta resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

Though most of the park details are currently under wraps, what we do know is that park planners intend to combine an immersive Cirque du Soleil experience within Vidanta resort’s luxurious stylings. Included within that will be three hotels that cater to both acrobat lovers and those who probably need healing from “too much acrobat.” There’ll also be an interactive theater, VIP hydrotherapy and, much like Disney princesses at Disney World, an assortment of performers strolling throughout the park.

At the moment there’s no word on what rides may or may not be included—let’s hope for a trapeze roller coaster. Perhaps the best information released might be these mockups, which make it look like a contemporary Chichen Itza interspersed with sparkling cenotes, all of this seemingly inspired by someone sipping shroom tea.

Nuevo Vallarta sees The Park as an additive to the city’s tourism potential. At the moment, park heads hope the theme park will draw up to 5 million tourists annually. Let’s just hope “falling” isn’t part of the experience.
