Drake Just Surpassed Michael Jackson’s Record for Most American Music Awards Nominations

Music News Drake

It feels a bit wrong, but Drake just beat a record held by Michael Jackson. The Toronto rapper was nominated for a whopping 13 American Music Awards, surpassing Jackson’s record of 11 set in 1984.

Drake’s nods include Artist of the Year, Favorite Album and Favorite Rap Artist. The AMAs choose nominees based on airplay, sales, video viewing and activity on social networks. Drake’s never won before, though he’s been nominated seven times.

We’ll see how Drake does at the AMAs on Nov. 20. Even if he wins every award, he won’t come close to the record the King of Pop still holds for a total 26 AMAs won. And unlike Jackson, there’s pretty much no way Drake will ever win “Artist of the Century.” So don’t fret—M.J.’s still the king.
