A full week ahead of the show’s season seven premiere, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a season eight. Of course, this comes as little surprise: the show is a smash success for AMC, and there’s no end in sight.

“Eeny, meeny, miney, more,” said AMC president Charlie Collier, in reference to the show’s infamous season six cliffhanger, which will hopefully be resolved when season seven premieres. “What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans.”

The show’s eighth season will bring it to 100 episodes, a landmark achievement for any scripted series. With The Walking Dead’s absurd levels of popularity, it seems unlikely that 100 will be the end, either. The show’s first six seasons have established a formula that’s meant to last, and it looks like it will do just that.

Season seven of The Walking Dead premieres at 9 p.m. EST this Sunday, Oct. 23 on AMC. Buckle up—it’s going to be a bloody one.
