I've been a big fan of I Surrender Records for years, so it comes as no surprise that "Smokey Eyes", the first single from their latest signee, Lincoln, has been on repeat for the past few days.
The 19-year-old Cincinnati-native has created an angst-riddled, alt-rock anthem anchored by churning guitars, driving percussion and a massive hook. One of the most promising aspect of "Smokey Eyes" is the indication of what Lincoln is capable of as a lyricist; sardonic, rebellious and relatable. Lincoln could very well be the next great storyteller in the vein of Jeff Magnum, Max Bemis or a more pissed off Ben Gibbard.
"Smokey Eyes" is the first track off of Lincoln's debut EP A Constant State of Ohio due out January 27th. We're excited to see what the rest of that EP will sound like!
