Proud Trump Supporter Goes on Racist Tirade After Being Cut Off in Traffic

The election is one day away and no matter how it turns out, the candidacy of Republican Donald Trump has irreversibly changed the modern cultural and political landscape. One facet of that is the way in which he’s normalized Islamophobia, racism, sexism and xenophobia for millions of his followers. Exhibit A of the emboldened Trump supporter is this unidentified man in Memphis, Tenn., who was caught on camera going on a racist tirade.

The man filming the video (embedded below), later identified as Brandon, reportedly cut off the Trump supporter, who has yet to be identified, in traffic, leading to the confrontation in a parking lot. The man begins the video by yelling “Trump” at Brandon as if it were a threat or insult in some way, before going on a rant about how black lives don’t matter, repeatedly calling Brandon the n-word, saying that white lives matter, and saying he would have “smashed” Brandon if it wasn’t for the camera.

On top of that, as if going for Discriminatory White Dude Bingo, the man also stopped his wife from participating in the confrontation by telling her to, “Be a woman,” and slamming the car door shut on her, calling Brandon homophobic and transphobic slurs, and grabbing his crotch and flashing his abs trying to intimidate Brandon.

The video ends with Brandon driving away and saying, “That’s exactly why y’all need to get out and vote. You ever needed proof why you need to get out and be heard? Go fucking vote.”

But this isn’t a secret confrontation filmed without the man’s permission revealing hidden prejudices. According to Brandon, in an interview with FOX13 Memphis, the man became overtly racist after he began filming and only mentioned Trump once he realized the camera was on. In the video, the man seems proud of being filmed and of the idea of the video going up on social media, saying, “It’s okay, spread this.”

For Trump and his followers, like the man in the video, being racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and xenophobic isn’t something to be ashamed of, but something to be proud of. If Trump can say the things he does and possibly become the next president, then why should the bigots of America hide how they really feel? While Republicans of old may have tiptoed around outright bigotry, content on disenfranchising millions of voters using the specter of “voter fraud” or fighting to limit the rights of those not straight or white or male under the guise of “family values,” Trump has instead been more honest with himself and his legion. Trump has emboldened and encouraged a new wave of outright and proud prejudice in America, whether he wins the election or not.

You can watch the encounter in the video embedded below. Be warned, of course, that it contains some extremely hateful language.
