It’s true—the aging folk-rock legend is collaborating with the rising young rapper, who’s been making waves in the music world after his debut studio album came out last month.
Actually, this isn’t a surprise. The world’s initial double-take came when D.R.A.M. tweeted this in February:
And in early November, D.R.A.M. spoke again of the collaboration, telling Brooklyn Mag, “It was really, really cool, man. I mean, a guy from the old school, like, a real, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer. Just embracing my take on music, my sound, and the fact that I’m able to collaborate with someone so legendary, from a whole ‘nother side of the spectrum; it’s monumental.”
But now we have more than just hints and allusions. Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, Calif., released a video that shows D.R.A.M. and Neil Young in the studio together, and with Chance the Rapper associates The Social Experiment, too, it seems.
Young grins at the camera and says, “Hey D.R.A.M., sure was good, man. Definitely happening for me. Thanks, bud.”
If their collaborative efforts are released soon, 2016 could slightly redeem itself (maybe). Watch Young and D.R.A.M. in the Shangri-La studio above.
