Taraji P. Henson may be NASA’s only hope. The full-length trailer for Hidden Figures shows us how Henson’s Katherine Johnson provided much of the science behind one of NASA’s biggest operations in the early 1960s.

Of course, Johnson didn’t do her work alone. She had help from Octavia Spencer’s Dorothy Vaughan and Janelle Monáe’s Mary Jackson. Based on Margot Lee Shederly’s Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win The Space Race, Hidden Figures tells the true story of the trio of women who worked inside of NASA to provide crucial aid to the space race generally, and specifically to the Apollo moon landing.

The film also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons and Mahershala Ali. Theodore Melfi directed the film from a script he co-wrote alongside Allison Schroeder. Hidden Figures will begin a limited run on Christmas Day, qualifying it for Oscar consideration. The film will go wide on Jan. 6.
