has never been a fan of digital projection. Instead, he prefers the medium that movies were originally stored on: good old-fashioned film. Nolan is among the last directors who believe in shooting on film, but it’s an issue near and dear to his heart.
It’s for that reason that Dunkirk, Nolan’s World War II drama, will be released a few days early in theaters with IMAX and 35mm capabilities, according to Indie Revolver. The film will be released everywhere on July 21, 2017, but these select theaters will begin screening the film on July 19.
The film itself stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and Harry Styles, and focuses on the evacuation mission at Dunkirk in 1940. The film was made in 2014, and promises to be just as visually dazzling as Nolan’s previous works. You can check out the first teaser for Dunkirk here.
