Live Photos: Whitney Plays its 200th Show at Chicago Homecoming

Last Saturday, the soft rock raconteurs in Whitney marked their 200th show by playing a sold-out concert at Thalia Hall in their Chicago hometown. Frank Frankowski, who’s directed many of the group’s videos, introduced the band and vocalist Julien Ehrlich later revealed that he and guitarist Max Kakacek signed a lease on an apartment earlier that day. Whitney worked its way throughout debut album Light Upon the Lake alongside covers of Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You” and an encore of Dolly Parton’s “Gonna Hurry (As Slow as I Can).” Also: a singalong of “Happy Birthday” devoted to Kakacek’s Dad, who watched on from the balcony. Singer-songwriter Trevor Sensor opened. Check out photographer Sarah Hess’ gallery of the night. Whitney will soon tour throughout Asia, but will return to the states in February for a stint supporting The Head and The Heart.
