Today, 73-year-old Mick Jagger begins his eighth round of fatherhood; his 30-year-old girlfriend, ballerina Melanie Hamrick, has just given birth to their first child together. It’s a boy, and he’s younger than Jagger’s two-year-old great-granddaughter. That makes the little boy a great-uncle.
Publicist Bernard Doherty announced the news, saying that the couple was “delighted.” He also noted, “Mick was at the hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we request that the media respect their privacy at this time.”
Jagger’s second-youngest child is 17; his oldest is 46. He’ll certainly have no problem providing for all these kids, what with his multi-million-earning legacy music. The Rolling Stones’ latest album Blue & Lonesome just came out last Friday, and is expected to reach No. 1 on the Billboard U.K. chart.
So, Jagger’s officially the new Charlie Chaplin: the comic actor’s last child was famously born when he was also at the ripe age of 73. Chaplin was a father of 11, though, so he’s still got a few kids on Jagger.
Considering the rigors of a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, it’s remarkable that this guy’s still alive, let alone having kids. Hats off to the couple, and welcome to the world, tiny child of rock. Enjoy a Stones performance from many Jagger children ago via the Paste Cloud below.
