Rogue Wave’s Zach Schwartz and singer-songwriter Courtney Jaye are combining forces for a new project called Pent Up, due out in 2017, under the name Rogue + Jaye.
The duo released the album’s first single “Forces of Decay” through Rolling Stone Country today. Jaye said that the song “is about intimacy with another person protecting you from the chaos outside the door.” She continues, “The world, now more than ever, seems to be a dark and confusing place. But you can build an insular world that no one can touch when you have love in your life.”
Jaye acknowledged that the pair make very different styles of music: “I think the reason it works so well is because we both have great respect for each other and push one another to go out of our comfort zones,” she said. “It’s been a musical give and take, so to speak, but finding that middle ground and ultimately creating something that we both love and can get behind.”
The album is described as “something as informed by Belle and Sebastian and Mazzy Star as it is Ingrid Michaelson,” as well as a pairing of the sounds of Nashville and Los Angeles. Listen to “Forces of Decay” by Rogue + Jaye below, and beneath that, watch Rogue Wave’s June Paste Studio session.
