Jay Z’s Time: The Kalief Browder Story Gets Trailer, Premiere Date

Kalief Browder was only 16 years old when he was arrested for second-degree robbery and sent to prison for three years without a conviction. Time: The Kalief Browder Story recounts this horrible story, which ended with Browder’s suicide.

Time is the first project that unites Jay Z and The Weinstein Company, who recently signed a two-year deal that gives The Weinstein Company first-look privileges for everything Jay Z produces. The series is set to air in six parts on Spike TV this March.

Now, the docuseries has a trailer that focuses on the most precious thing Browder had stolen from him: time. The docuseries will feature dramatic reenactments of Browder’s life, archival footage, and interviews with family and friends. Among this family is Venida Browder, Kalief’s mother, who died just two weeks after the series was announced from complications related to a heart attack.

Time: The Kalief Browder Story will make its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month, where the first two episodes will screen. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Jay Z. The series will premiere on Spike TV on March 1, 2017 at 10 p.m. EST. Check out the trailer for the series above. Browder’s story was also a key part of Ava DuVernay’s 13TH—find our review of that film here.
