SXSW Conference and Festivals has announced an updated list of keynote and featured speakers, and the lineup is as creatively diverse as ever. Jessica Shortall, advocate of equality, fairness and human rights, will be one of the festival’s keynote speakers. Shortall is the managing director of Texas Competes, a coalition of Texas companies “making the date-driven case for Texas to be welcoming to LGBTQ people.” Enlisting Shortall as the keynote speaker signals a definite move toward an open and inclusive SXSW conference. Previously announced keynote speakers include producer/director Lee Daniels (Empire, Precious), photographer Cory Richards, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Nile Rodgers and Transparent creator Jill Soloway.
They will be joined by an impressive gathering of featured speakers ranging from actors and producers to entrepreneurs and government officials. Some featured speakers worth noting include Apollo 11 astronaut and recent N.Y. fashionista Buzz Aldrin, Veep actress and Emmy Award winner Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul, Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, Seth Rogen and Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards. Other notables include Senator Cory Booker, Frank Oz and Kesha.
SXSW’s upcoming registration deadline is Feb. 10, with early registrants saving $100 on the walk-up rate and having access to better hotel options. You can see the full list of announced featured and keynote speakers on the SXSW website, as well as the schedule of conference programming. See below for the entire list of newly added speakers.
