The wait is over: Dave Chappelle’s first stand-up comedy concert specials in 12 years are headed exclusively to Netflix on Tuesday, March 21.
Both Dave Chappelle: The Age of Spin and Dave Chappelle: Deep in the Heart of Texas are from Chappelle’s personal vault of previously filmed but never-released specials. The former was filmed at The Palladium in Los Angeles in March 2016, while the latter was shot at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater in Austin in April 2015.
Chappelle financed both hour-long specials himself, with Stan Lathan taking on directorial duties. A press release promises the former Chappelle’s Show host’s “unflinching comedic style, tackling race, class, politics, pop culture and more.” Meanwhile, the Emmy-nominated comic is currently out on the road, touring in preparation for the third of three Netflix specials he set with the streamer back in November of 2016.
